Hi Ewe all,
Welcome to the Lazy D Ranch
in the hills of Scott County, Va. , owned and operated by Scottie
and Susan Duncan, and the real boss, our son Cole, I better not
forget my Dad, he’s a real help, I couldn’t do it without him.
This 67 acre Ranch was
bought in 1957 by my grandparents. They raised a daughter here, made
a living by raising cattle and tobacco. They also raised almost
everything they ate from this land, a true country way of life.
I took over the ranch in
1994, pastured a few horses for a while, then in 2006 I became
interested in Katahdin Hair sheep. I bought some commercial sheep to
help me and my dad clean the ranch back up, what a chore! I got
really hooked on these sheep, but I wanted to better the quality of
the sheep I was raising. I met Mark Dennis from Country Oak Ranch
at Scott County Hair Sheep Sale. He had bred the best to the best
for 23 years to get his genetics. I had seen the Katahdins I wanted,
Susan and I decided to breed the Best Katahdin Genetics available
for Meat, I sold out and bought a Registered (RR) Katahdin Ram from
Mark, which we call “Cajun”. I also bought Registered (RR)
Katahdin Ewes from Kenneth Jessee owner of Jessee Farms. He had
selected his Genetics from Canada to Louisiana including the ram,
“Old Man”, a ram which is a grandson of “Goliath”, a Canadian Agribition champion. I am proud to say we brought all these genetics
to the Lazy D Ranch! Our goal is to keep improving our genetics to
produce MEAT Sheep.
We are members of Katahdin
Hair Sheep International (KHSI), South Central Katahdin Hair Sheep
Association (SCKA), Scott County Hair Sheep Association (SCHSA),
Lamb Plan, our flock is registered, and is a USDA "certified"
scrappie fee flock.
Lazy D Ranch will appreciate
your business, our Katahdins will begin lambing late Jan.—Mar, 2011,
only breeding stock will be sold, the rest will go to market.
Health records, Registration papers, epd’s, a copy of our Flock
certification will be available. Our lambs will be RR, with A and
AA hair coats. |
